You are most welcome to arrange individual tuition. For example, if assistance in a specific area of refraction or optics, and this teaching is always found to be very useful by delegates. A group session can be arranged, which is even more cost effective, and fee available on request.

The tuition is held via Zoom or the Dunstone Optometry Practice in South Suffolk, where courses have been held since September 2000. Hadleigh is a historic market town, which has a good choice of accommodation and is situated 10 miles from Ipswich. See bottom of this page for local accommodation and travel information.

Tuition for Ophthalmologists:

The object of the course is to teach the theory and practice of refraction and is of particular help for those studying for the refraction examinations of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. A detailed step-by-step guide on to how to successfully refract will be provided, with demonstration and practise with patients. You will be taught an enormous amount of tips, which will mean you can return to practice your refraction with much more confidence. Tuition will be provided into each of the RCOphth OSCE station subject areas. The course is suitable both for doctors just starting to refract, as well as those wishing to fine-tune their technique. Orthoptists, eye nurses and other medical specialities are also most welcome and have previously attended.

Individual Tuition for Optometrists

  • To increase clinical skills and knowledge, in preparation for Scheme for Registration Assessments or OSCEs.

Although meeting in person is ideal, a great deal of knowledge can be taught via Zoom if necessary, through lectures and demonstration. These practical refraction tips are most difficult to ascertain from books. For many years I have provided video teaching and delegates have found this incredibly useful. This course, followed up by practice on your own patients, should ensure the necessary skills are gained.

Courses can be held at alternative locations or countries by arrangement. For example, a one week group course in optics, refraction (including advanced retinoscopy techniques) and low vision service has been held at the Mater Dei Hospital, Malta during 2011, 2016, 2022 & 2025.

The sessions can be tailored to your own requirements and my fee is £60 per hour via Zoom or £120 per hour in person. To apply for tuition or to ask a question please use the Contact Us link or email Derek Dunstone derek@dunstoneinsight.com  or phone 07742996601.

A free introductory Zoom session can be arranged to discuss requirements.
